WordPress vs. Blogspot. What’s Better For SEO?

Most bloggers keep asking about whether WordPress or Blogspot is better for SEO. In comparison to Blogspot, WordPress can be easily customized and enhanced from an SEO perspective. It is easy to install an SEO plug-in on WordPress and improve the site ranking very easily whereas Blogspot doesn’t allow the use of third-party plugins.

As professionals in the field, we see significant debates carried out about blogging platforms, Since WordPress or Blogspot are two of the major contenders, the discussions contesting their SEO worth are constant. Both are blogging platforms developed with a view to make blogging fun and both come with their own advantages, and our post below sheds some light on their varied aspects.

To know both platforms better, it is important to understand the basic difference between the two platforms. WordPress allows bloggers to have a greater control on their SEO efforts while Blogspot trusts the force of great content to drive traffic to your blog. Apart from this basic difference there are several other factors that differentiate between these two platforms.

SEO Plugins:

WordPress allows its users to install and use thousands of SEO plugins to improve their search engine results and thus diverting more traffic. In fact you can even download these plugins on your web hosting space or server. This is not allowed on Blogspot as it is a service hosted by Blogger and thus can’t be used on private servers. So no third party plugins are available to be installed and used on Blogspot. This is a drawback that many Blogspot users admit. In fact WordPress allows even social media plugins to be integrated in your blog to allow you a single interface to manage your SEO efforts. The Blogspot users fail to cash in the power of social media.

Content Optimization:

WordPress seems to score more even in this space as it has several plugins for content optimization. You can also take the help of these plugins to find the most relevant keywords for your content and their effectiveness in diverting more traffic. Even though you can add HTML tags to your Blogspot, you don’t have the option to find relevant keywords and checking their effectiveness.

User-friendly:

Blogger is deemed to be easy when it comes to creating blogs and comments but it is difficult to format it keeping the SEO practices in mind. Whereas WordPress being an open source technology offers the users great independence to design the data into new form by making the relevant changes in the Meta tags of different pages. This option is not available in Blogger and thus the blogs never appear in top search results.

Frequency:

On Blogger, it is very difficult to maintain rank as regular posting is important. In other words, taking a break can be pretty lethal for your rankings. But in the case of WordPress, it is easier to maintain the ranking even if you take little breaks. As a blogger you need not be available 24×7 to post to be better ranked.

Conclusion

Undoubtedly WordPress emerges as a champion over Blogspot in terms of SEO. It is a flexible platform wherein you can embed a number of plug-ins for SEO and social media. Also, there are thousands of WordPress themes that are available to add to the visual appeal of the blog.

Dollar for dollar, it’s a better bet for anyone wanting to hit first page rankings. What you do with your content is up to you, but that’s a post for another time.
